By 2023, Peru registered an increase in exports of unrefined sugar to the United States of 5.16% compared to the previous year.

In a report issued by the Directorate of Economic Studies, of the General Directorate of Agrarian Policies, of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), it was noted that the volume shipped from Peru represented 94.05% of the final quota granted, which amounted to 58,304 tons. The original quota assigned was 43,175 tons.

The above represents an alternative to the restrictions of the government of India, one of the largest exporters of sugar, after the drop in production due to the lack of rain and by prioritizing the production of ethanol and having an adequate supply in the national market, especially in an election year.
